Austroads have published ATS 2235 Supply of Box Culverts. This version includes both small and large box culverts in one document (they have removed ATS 2230 Supply of small box culverts).
The CPAA’s comments on the draft of ATS 2235 early last year have been mostly considered favourably except:
- the requirement of special class concrete to ATS 5315 ;
- the requirement for manufacture to be under a quality system that is independently certified by JASANZ accredited organisation as complying with AS/NZS ISO 9001; and
- curing to Cl 2.6.3 of AS1597 is not acceptable with curing specified to AS5100.5.
As many will know, Austroads is the head road body authority which develops specifications that are intended for road authorities to adopt throughout Australia. Increasingly we are seeing State Road Authorities adopt harmonisation with ATS content by either full adoption or referencing the ATS with additional local requirements. As such it is in the interest of CPAA members to know what is in the current ATS specs.
