The CPAA’s 3-hour installer training sessions began last December with a number of small, targeted sessions held in the South Island to date and more dates confirmed in June.
Christchurch – 11th and 12th June

Amanda Choi, Technical Sales Engineer for CPAA Member company Humes Pipelines in New Zealand says the plan is to get around the entire country, to upskill Council contractors and suppliers on the manufacture and design of concrete pipe, the difference between rigid and flexible pipe, how pipe is specified plus lots of practical guidance about pipe delivery, storage and movement on site. “It covers the whole process right through to inspections and ensuring the H&S and Quality side is looked after to deliver a pipeline that will last 100 years,” she says.
Key to the sessions is a discussion on loads, embedment and compaction. “It is surprising that some people haven’t heard of support types for concrete pipe installation – unlike flexible pipe – requires less purchased backfill material in the trench because the pipe itself takes the load. This can mean a significant cost saving and, on top of the 100-year design life when installed correctly, makes concrete pipe the ideal choice for infrastructure.”
